Welcome to the National Jazz Archive

The National Jazz Archive is the national repository and research centre for printed material, photographs and memorabilia concerning jazz, blues and related music. By making this important aspect of our cultural heritage available to enthusiasts of all ages we aim to inspire and tell the story of jazz in the UK.

The scope of the collection is very broad with the emphasis on British materials although foreign works are also collected, especially from the United States.

Our goals are:

  • To provide a peerless resource for jazz research in the UK.
  • To acquire all relevant books and periodicals currently published in the UK through donation, purchase and exchange.
  • To acquire out of print publications and memorabilia, photographs, concert programmes, posters, etc.
  • To acquire unpublished material, especially personal papers, letters and memorabilia of major figures within the British jazz community.
  • To acquire foreign publications by establishing contacts with a view to soliciting donations and exchanges.
  • To offer a full information and enquiry service.
  • To digitise some aspects of the collection for public access via the internet.
